First Communion

Ages: 2nd grade and older

Typical schedule: Classes are held on three Sunday afternoons in late winter (usually February-March)

First communion classes center on sharing meals and welcoming all to the table. We read Bible stories where special food is shared, prepare a special meal for someone, and talk about our connection to Jesus through the bread and wine.

Preparation culminates with the children baking communion bread to be used at their First Communion service.

While they were eating, Jesus took a loaf of bread, and after blessing it he broke it, gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” Then he took a cup, and after giving thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it all of you; for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
