Bible Study

Ages: Adults (Youth Bible study happens in the context of Sunday School and Confirmation classes.)

Typical schedule: Multi-week sessions several times each year:

Thursdays, 11 AM - Noon

We hold Bible studies throughout the year, typically in small group format, usually alternating study between an Old Testament and New Testament book. Pastor Kate or Vicar Amy lead the classes, which are informal in nature with time for checking in with each other, reading and discussion. Often there is a brief video to accompany the study.

Recent studies have included:

• Civic Life and Faith, a social statement in development by the ELCA, toward a projected draft of a proposed social statement for consideration by the 2025 ELCA Churchwide Assembly
• The World of Biblical Israel, a study of the history and people of ancient Israel, based on a course by Professor Cynthia R. Chapman of Oberlin College.
• Exploring the Book of Isaiah
• By Heart: A Class on the Small Catechism
• The Holy Land Revealed from The Great Courses by archaeologist and UNC-Chapel Hill Professor Jodi Magness
• The surprisingly hope-filled Book of Revelation: The Apocalypse: Controversies and Meaning in Western History, by Professor Craig R. Koester, Luther Seminary
• Reading Biblical Literature: From Genesis to Revelation
• Troubling the Waters (pdf): An ELCA bible study to examine the sin of racism and its effect on mission and ministry within a multicultural society

All are welcome to join in at any time and it's okay if you can’t attend every class, need to leave early or arrive late. Nonmembers are welcome!
